If you want to go for that Native American feel, a little emory on the head to remove the black coating. Sand down the hickory handle, a little oil to get it protected and nice. You can add the little screw back, but if you've done a good job with the handle, you shouldn't need to. Remove the head, reshape the hickory top, and then reseat the head. If you see it as that, you have a 5* base to start work with. Instead of buying this as a 100% ready to rock n roll 'hawk, think of it as a project 'hawk. However, if you wanted it as an "out of the box" product forget it. however I wanted to work on it as a project so I kept it. I actually contacted Heinnie to mention the poor quality and was advised I could send it back for a full refund. I was impressed by Heinnie's delivery as always. plus the fit to the handle was incredibly lose and poor. however I was shocked by the quality of the axe head.
